A nursing home proprietor in Odisha’s Ganjam district was apprehended on Sunday following allegations of performing a delivery without the necessary medical qualifications, resulting in the deaths of both the mother and her newborn child. The police reported that 35-year-old Mangulu Charan Pradhan, along with two Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), conducted a delivery on May 11 at the nursing home in the absence of a registered medical practitioner. Pradhan’s arrest came after a complaint was filed by the deceased woman’s husband, Babu Nayak. The two ANMs, Madhusmita Pattanayak and Pramodini Gamango, were previously arrested for their involvement in the incident. The nursing home had reportedly assured the family that it was equipped with all required facilities for a safe delivery, leading to the admission of Roji Nayak, who was in labor, on May 11.
