The much-anticipated Winter Session of Parliament commences today, marking the beginning of a crucial period for legislative action. The government has outlined an extensive agenda, with numerous bills slated for introduction and debate. Parliamentarians will also grapple with pressing national concerns, notably the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states, which the Opposition is expected to highlight. Furthermore, the severe air pollution gripping the national capital, Delhi, is set to be a significant point of discussion.
The session aims to foster a productive legislative environment, with the government having already engaged in discussions with political parties. An all-party meeting, held yesterday, saw participation from 50 leaders representing 36 different political outfits. This outreach was designed to build consensus and ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings. Meanwhile, major opposition parties, including the Congress, convened strategy meetings to prepare for the session’s challenges and opportunities. The Winter Session is scheduled to continue until December 19th, promising a dynamic period of political engagement and legislative progress.
