The Indian central government has officially recognized the Patna-Purnia Expressway, designating it as a National Expressway, specifically National Expressway-9 (NE-9). This marks a significant advancement for Bihar’s infrastructure initiatives, with this expressway being the first to be entirely constructed within the state. The announcement was met with positive responses, with the Road Construction Minister expressing pride and emphasizing the project’s potential to boost regional connectivity and socio-economic development, especially in the Seemanchal region. The expressway is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Patna and Purnia to just three hours, facilitating enhanced accessibility and progress in the eastern districts of Bihar. Spanning approximately 250 kilometers, the expressway will connect Mirnagar Arezi near Hajipur to Hansdah in Purnia district, integrating several towns and villages along its route. The project includes constructing essential infrastructure like large bridges, railway overbridges, interchanges, underpasses, and link roads, ensuring efficient connectivity with district headquarters such as Samastipur, Saharsa, and Madhepura. Land acquisition is actively underway across more than 250 villages in six districts, with construction slated to commence promptly upon completion, signifying a crucial step in Bihar’s infrastructure development.
