Peak‑Hour Demand Near 20,000 MW as Heat Wave Extends

On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu recorded a daily consumption of 432.6 million units, pushing the peak demand to 19,921 MW – the highest daily figure in recent history. Thermal stations contributed 80 million units, central generating stations added 83.4 million units, while short‑term purchases and power exchanges supplied 38.5 million and 36.5 million units respectively. The prolonged summer, amplified by El Niño conditions, has kept demand elevated even after sunset, when solar output drops and wind generation weakens.
