As the US tariff regime against India intensifies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a nationwide push for ‘swadeshi’ goods. Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Modi urged businesses to prominently display boards advertising the sale of ‘swadeshi’ products, especially with the festive season approaching. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance and resilience in the face of economic pressures, a message delivered as more US tariffs are anticipated. Modi stated that the government is dedicated to protecting small entrepreneurs, farmers, and livestock rearers, and vowed to strengthen the country’s ability to withstand external pressures. These remarks were made in light of the US’s use of economic pressure, including tariffs, to influence India’s trade practices, particularly regarding Russian oil imports.
