Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his thanks to former US President Donald Trump for a phone call and birthday greetings on his 75th birthday. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi referred to Trump as a “friend” and emphasized their shared commitment to advancing the India-US partnership. This exchange marked the first communication between the two leaders since June 17. Modi expressed his dedication to elevating the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership and voiced support for Trump’s efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
Trump, in a separate post on Truth Social, also mentioned the call, wishing PM Modi a happy birthday and praising his leadership. Trump further thanked Modi for his support in ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Earlier in the week, both nations signaled their readiness to move forward with a long-awaited trade agreement. Trump expressed his pleasure with the ongoing discussions aimed at resolving trade barriers, calling PM Modi a “very good friend” and anticipating a positive outcome for both countries. Modi reciprocated this sentiment, highlighting the close ties between India and the US and expressing confidence that trade negotiations would unlock the partnership’s potential.
