During his visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced development projects worth Rs 6,500 crore and addressed a public gathering in Darrang. He criticized the Congress party and stated, “I am a devotee of Lord Shiva and I swallow all the poison.” Modi mentioned his first visit to Assam after ‘Operation Sindoor’ and credited its success to the blessings of Maa Kamakhya. He highlighted the recent celebration of Bharat Ratna recipient, Sudhakanta Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary and the government’s commitment to fulfilling the dreams of Assam’s ancestors. He referred to a statement by the Congress party president that criticized the Bharat Ratna awarded to Hazarika. Modi asserted, “I am a devotee of Lord Shiva and I swallow all the poison.” He referred to the 1962 war with China and how the wounds of the people of the North-East, caused by the comments made by Pandit Nehru, are still unhealed, with the current generation of the Congress party pouring salt on those wounds. He continued, “Even if people hurl abuses at me, I am a devotee of Lord Shiva and swallow all the poison, but I cannot bear the insult of others with shamelessness.” Modi added that the public is his god, and his soul will speak in front of the public. He concluded by saying, “This is the time for the North East.” The Prime Minister stated that the entire nation is moving forward together for the construction of a developed India.
