Post‑370 Reforms: Rural Women in Kashmir Earn Up to ₹20,000 Monthly

The repeal of special provisions in Jammu and Kashmir has opened new economic avenues for women residing near the international border. Through the UMMEED self‑help group, they have set up small‑scale units producing spice blends, dried chili mixes and other value‑added goods. Ten women currently operate the unit, each drawing an income close to ₹20,000 a month, and the collective turnover now measures in the high‑lakhs. The group’s success is linked to the Prime Minister’s “Vocal for Local” drive, which has helped them gain entry into exhibitions and expand their market reach.
