Punjab Government Releases 3 Percent DA Ahead of Diwali Festival
Punjab’s administration has taken a significant step toward easing the cost-of-living pressures faced by its workforce, as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the disbursement of a 3 percent Dearness Allowance. The measure is expected to provide substantial economic relief to around eight lakh government employees and pension holders.
The Chief Minister specified that this installment will be merged with the December payment cycle. It builds upon a September policy shift that increased the total DA rate by eight percent, setting it at 50 percent from September 1 onward.
Speaking on the importance of civil service, Mann likened government workers to the central pillar of state governance. He stressed that these individuals are vital in ensuring that public services and beneficiary schemes reach intended recipients effectively. The state leadership maintains that a content workforce is a prerequisite for high-quality administrative output.
The clearance of this 3 percent allowance resolves protracted disputes between the government and employee representative bodies. After weeks of preparatory meetings and a decisive discussion on September 18, the administration raised the DA baseline from 42 percent to 50 percent. This intervention was primarily aimed at averting extended strikes over delayed financial claims.
Concurrently, talks are still underway to address additional union requests, notably the revival of the Old Pension Scheme and other employment-related issues. Concluding his address, the Chief Minister offered festive greetings to the employees and their households, highlighting the government’s ongoing dedication to staff welfare and streamlined governance.
