Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, attended the MP-MLA court in Lucknow. The appearance was in connection with a defamation case concerning alleged controversial statements he made about the Indian Army. UP Congress President Ajay Rai confirmed Gandhi’s presence, stating his visit was to fulfill court obligations before returning to Delhi. Earlier in the day, Gandhi commented on the death of a 20-year-old student in Balasore, Odisha, calling it an “organised murder by the BJP’s system.” He accused the BJP of failing to protect the victim, who had set herself on fire after reporting sexual harassment and being allegedly subjected to threats and humiliation. In a post on X, Gandhi condemned the BJP government, accusing them of shielding the accused and urging Prime Minister Modi to address the issue and ensure justice for the daughters of India. Following the student’s death, Congress workers protested outside AIIMS Bhubaneswar, which was later followed by police detaining the protesters. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar confirmed the death of the 20-year-old student.
