Controversy has been brewing over the funding received by political parties in India. Rahul Gandhi has criticized the Election Commission following reports of 10 anonymous parties in Gujarat receiving 4300 crore rupees in donations over five years. Gandhi, on the social media platform X, questioned the source of these funds and where they were being spent. He pointed out that these parties, which are largely unheard of, have contested few elections. Gandhi asked whether the Election Commission would investigate the matter, or if it would resort to other measures to conceal the data. He has been critical of the Election Commission for the past two months, accusing it of working in favor of the BJP. His remarks come amid a voter rights campaign against alleged vote theft. According to media reports, these 10 political parties received donations from 23 individuals. Despite fielding candidates in both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, they collectively received only 54,069 votes.
