An investigation has been launched into the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta by Rajesh Khimji during a public hearing. CCTV footage shows Rajesh Khimji conducting reconnaissance of the CM’s residence. The accused, Rajesh Khimji, visited Rekha Gupta’s Shalimar Bagh residence between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM the previous day. At the Shalimar Bagh residence, staff at the CM’s private residence provided him with the address of the CM’s official residence and the time of the public hearing on a slip of paper. The accused then returned to the Gujarati Samaj Bhavan in Civil Lines. On Wednesday, Rajesh Khimji arrived at the CM’s official residence around 8:00 AM.
A CCTV footage has emerged purportedly showing Rajesh Khimji, accused of attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, surveying her Shalimar Bagh residence on August 19, a day before the incident at the public hearing. The footage was released by the Chief Minister’s Office.
Sources revealed that the attacker initially gave some papers to Rekha Gupta during the public hearing and then allegedly attacked her. The accused, Rajesh (41), resided in Gokul Park, Kotharia Road, Rajkot, Gujarat, with his wife, son, and parents.
Reports indicate that the individual approached the public hearing seeking the release of a jailed relative. He was immediately taken into custody after the incident and brought to the Civil Lines police station for questioning. Following the attack, senior officials, including the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Chief Secretary, and Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, arrived at CM Gupta’s residence.
