India’s struggle for independence was fueled by the sacrifices of countless brave individuals. Among these heroes was Ram Prasad Bismil, whose life and deeds continue to inspire. June 11, 2025, marks the 127th birth anniversary of this legendary freedom fighter, poet, and revolutionary. He faced execution by the British, leaving behind a legacy of courage and patriotism.
Born on June 11, 1897, in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Ram Prasad Bismil was the son of Murlidhar and Moolmati. He developed a passion for reading and writing from a young age, demonstrating a strong belief in justice.
Bismil’s commitment to the freedom movement began early in life. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a secret revolutionary group dedicated to ending British rule. A pivotal moment in his life was the Kakori Conspiracy, where he and other revolutionaries intercepted a train to acquire funds for their activities.
His involvement led to his arrest and subsequent death sentence. He was hanged on December 19, 1927, at the age of 30. Bismil was also a talented poet, expressing his love for the country through his writings.
Some of his most notable patriotic poems include “Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna,” “Mera Janm Hi Mar Mitne Ke Liye Hua Hai,” and “Man Ki Lahar.” The powerful lines of “Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hai zor kitna baazu-e-qatil mein hai,” resonated with young freedom fighters, becoming a symbol of their resolve.
