Rs 57-Crore Indoor Arena Set to Transform Aligarh Sports Scene

After months of anticipation, Aligarh’s long-awaited Olympic-standard sports complex is complete and awaiting inauguration by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Costing more than Rs 57 crore, the 13,000-square-metre facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for sporting excellence across the entire western region of Uttar Pradesh. Municipal Commissioner Prem Prakash Meena confirmed that the venue meets global benchmarks for multiple indoor disciplines. Its temperature-controlled swimming pool has already drawn praise from coaches who previously had to ferry athletes to distant cities for quality training. The complex also features an air-conditioned multipurpose hall suitable for badminton, basketball, table tennis and volleyball tournaments. Supporting amenities include a modern gymnasium, professional physiotherapy unit, spectator stands and dedicated media workspaces, ensuring the venue can comfortably host televised national championships. Beyond infrastructure, the project carries a social mission: to democratise access to elite training for economically weaker yet talented youngsters. With no more reliance on expensive travel or distant academies, families in smaller towns can now dream bigger. Sports administrators say the facility will quickly become a talent pipeline, producing athletes capable of representing the state and country while placing Aligarh firmly on India’s emerging sports map.
