In a significant development, the All India Shia Personal Law Board has endorsed the Centre’s formation of a high-powered committee tasked with studying demographic trends nationwide. General secretary Maulana Yasub Abbas described the initiative as timely and necessary for maintaining social balance. Maulana Abbas explained that the panel should systematically record where populations are rising or falling and examine the professions people are engaged in. He cautioned that any unusual jump or dip in numbers must be investigated, as natural growth occurs slowly. He also appealed directly to Home Minister Amit Shah to address the Shia community’s long-standing demand for adequate representation. Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, the cleric called on Muslims to mark the festival peacefully. He stressed that animal sacrifice rituals should not cause inconvenience to others and that waste must be disposed of responsibly. He reminded the faithful that Islam teaches respect for every citizen’s feelings. On the Supreme Court’s recent order upholding the Special Intensive Revision exercise, Maulana Abbas said the judiciary’s pronouncement deserves full respect and that no community should question the court’s authority.
