How to Shop Safely During Flipkart and Amazon Sales, Says Rajasthan Police
Jaipur, 9 October – The Rajasthan police have released a step‑by‑step guide for customers navigating the massive online sales hosted by Flipkart and Amazon. Under the direction of the state’s Director General of Police, the cyber crime unit outlined practical measures to avoid falling prey to fake offers and malicious links.
Scammers typically lure buyers with promises of massive price cuts, limited‑time promotions and high‑value cash‑back rewards. Urgent calls to “Act now” or “Only a few minutes left” aim to pressure shoppers into making hasty payments.
Common fraud vectors include counterfeit webpages that copy the look of the official store, rogue mobile apps uploaded to unofficial sources, and fraudulent payment gateways shared via WhatsApp or SMS.
Police recommendations: 1. Verify the deal directly on the retailer’s official website or the genuine app downloaded from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. 2. Examine the URL for misspellings or extra characters; do not rely solely on the HTTPS lock symbol. 3. Never disclose your UPI PIN, especially for “refund” or “cash‑back” claims; legitimate platforms will never ask for it. 4. Avoid scanning QR codes that appear in unsolicited messages claiming instant rewards. 5. Use only the support contact information provided within the official app or website; ignore numbers circulated on social platforms.
By adhering to these guidelines, consumers can protect themselves from financial loss while still enjoying the deep discounts of the festive sales period.
