Siddaramaiah Pushes Job-Focused Higher Education Reforms in Karnataka

In a powerful address at the Campus to Career Summit in Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday outlined a bold vision for higher education aligned with employment and entrepreneurship. 'We're committed to turning campuses into launchpads for jobs, startups, and leadership roles,' he affirmed, stressing the need for seamless collaboration among educators, industries, and policymakers. Karnataka's emergence as one of India's most dynamic economies stems from sustained investments in education, the CM noted. With a GDP touching 30.7 lakh crore and Bengaluru hosting 875 global tech centers, the state is primed for growth. Boasting the nation's highest college density at 66 per lakh people, the challenge now lies in outcome-driven education. Drawing from Dr. Ambedkar's philosophy, Siddaramaiah positioned education as the cornerstone of social equity and progress. Government programs like Yuva Nidhi provide crucial support—financial assistance and cutting-edge skills training—to ease graduates into the workforce. The state's industrial strategy targets 20 lakh new jobs, bolstered by ambitious projects such as the 40,000 crore Queen City in Bengaluru, which promises hubs for knowledge, healthcare, and innovation. The event saw participation from top leaders including Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, ministers MC Sudhakar, MB Patil, Priyank Kharge, and Sharan Prakash Patil, alongside industry heads, academics, and students. Siddaramaiah urged universities to revamp curricula with industry input, equipping students with practical skills to tackle professional hurdles. This initiative signals Karnataka's proactive approach to nurturing a skilled workforce ready to power the next phase of economic expansion.
