Shillong: A court has ordered the remand of all five suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, to eight days of police custody in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder investigation, according to police reports released on Wednesday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief and SP (City), East Khasi Hills, Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor confirmed this after the accused were presented before the District Court. The accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi (Raja Raghuvanshi’s wife), Raj Singh Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand, were then taken back to the Shillong Sadar Police Station. This follows the ongoing police investigation into the death of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a gorge near Sohra, close to Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, on June 2. Raja and Sonam were on their honeymoon in the northeastern state in May 2025 and were initially reported missing. Following the discovery of Raja’s body, Sonam was located near a roadside dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. She, along with the other suspects, is implicated in the alleged murder. Sonam’s brother, Govind, publicly stated his belief in her involvement and demanded severe punishment, including hanging if proven guilty. He also distanced himself and his family, expressing remorse to Raja’s family. Kiran Raghuvanshi, Raja’s sister-in-law, revealed that Sonam had two phones, consistently sending messages.
