Spirit Air is launching a new initiative under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme to connect several smaller cities in Bihar. These cities include Birpur, Saharsa, Munger, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Raxaul, Valmikinagar, and Bihta, which will be linked to major cities across the country via air routes. This is considered a transformative step towards regional connectivity, economic empowerment, and job creation.
This strategic move aligns with the Indian government’s vision to make air travel accessible to common citizens and boost regional development in underserved areas. The Spirit Air initiative aims not only to establish air connectivity but also to foster economic revitalization, empower rural areas, and provide access to new markets for the people and products of Bihar.
Based in Bengaluru, Spirit Air is managed by a team of experienced retired Air India officials with over three decades of aviation experience. The upcoming Spirit Air fleet for RCS operations in Bihar will include the Islander BN2T-4S STOL (Short Takeoff & Landing) aircraft suitable for passenger, cargo, and medical services, as well as the King Air 250, a high-performance, pressurized, and multi-mission flexible aircraft.
The initial phase of regional passenger air service operations will commence from Birpur, Saharsa, Munger, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Raxaul, Valmikinagar, and Bihta.
These airports will be connected to major metropolitan areas like Varanasi- Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Bihta will have direct connectivity to Patna, and will also connect to Jamshedpur and Bokaro.
International connectivity will include Muzaffarpur to Kathmandu and Janakpur (Nepal), Birpur to Rajbiraj and Biratnagar (Nepal), Valmikinagar to Kathmandu and Bhairahawa (Nepal), and Bihta to Kathmandu.
