State Allocates Over ₹470 Crore to Soil Conservation, Pulses, and Millet Missions

In a detailed financial statement, Tamil Nadu allocated more than ₹470 crore toward three flagship agricultural missions. The Soil Conservation Mission receives ₹122.51 crore to implement contour bunding, organic manure programmes and farmer awareness campaigns focused on preserving soil health.

The Pulse and Oilseed Self‑Reliance Mission is backed by ₹203.64 crore, targeting increased sowing of beans, lentils, groundnut and sunflower. Subsidies will cover high‑yield seed varieties, mechanised planting equipment and post‑harvest processing facilities.

The Millet Mission, supported by ₹63.81 crore, will expand the acreage of varieties such as ragi, kodo and little millet. The government plans to market millets as a super‑food, linking producers with health‑focused retailers and export partners.

Collectively, these allocations reflect a strategic shift toward climate‑resilient crops, nutritional security and higher farmer incomes, aligning with the state’s broader economic development agenda.
