Protests erupted outside AIIMS Bhubaneswar following the death of a 20-year-old student from Balasore, who had attempted self-immolation. Congress workers were detained by police during the demonstration. The student, from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after being admitted to the Burns Centre ICU. She had allegedly set herself on fire after facing prolonged sexual harassment by her college’s Head of Department, and her complaints were reportedly ignored by college authorities. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief and assured the family of strict action against those responsible.
