Study abroad financing in Gujarat expanded as income cap lifted to ₹10 lakh

The Gujarat state government has taken a significant step to promote overseas higher education by lifting the income eligibility ceiling for its Foreign Study Loan programme to ₹10 lakh per year. The adjustment, announced on September 22, is intended to reach a broader segment of the state’s middle‑income population. Eligible students can secure loans up to ₹15 lakh to cover tuition, living expenses, and other costs in countries such as Canada, the UK, Australia and the US. According to A.K. Joshi, Managing Director of Gujarat Unreserved Educational and Economic Development Corporation, the scheme has already disbursed close to ₹2,450 crore to more than 16,600 scholars since its inception.
