Chandigarh. In a sharp attack on the ruling dispensation, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar declared that the state will not succumb to the Aam Aadmi Party’s politics of fear and coercion ahead of local body polls. Addressing mediapersons, Jakhar said AAP’s public talk of shutting polling station gates and seizing booths only exposes the party’s panic after four-and-a-half years of what he called disastrous governance. He argued that such statements amount to an open confession that voters have turned away from AAP candidates because of mounting debt, rampant corruption, and a surge in drug-related crimes. Jakhar reminded the audience that the Mann government has saddled Punjab with liabilities exceeding Rs 2.25 lakh crore, money that could have been used for development but was instead wasted. He warned that any attempt to manipulate the electoral process would be met with strong public resistance. According to the BJP leader, citizens have already made up their minds that the next government will belong to the BJP. He urged voters to shun parties that fragment the anti-incumbency vote and instead rally behind the saffron party for genuine progress. Jakhar also predicted that the census exercise may trigger early assembly elections, leaving the present regime with little time to reverse its fortunes.
