The Supreme Court is set to deliver its interim order on petitions concerning the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The act, which has drawn criticism, faces challenges alleging it leads to a ‘creeping acquisition’ of Muslim properties. The court, led by CJI BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih, heard arguments for over three days before reserving the interim order on May 22nd. While the government defends the act as a response to property encroachments, petitioners dispute its constitutionality, specifically targeting sweeping changes to Waqf law.
