A 35-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped, gang-raped, and nearly killed by her husband and his friends in Surat, Gujarat, due to suspicions of an extramarital affair. The victim was thrown into the Tapi River but managed to survive and report the incident to the police. The main suspect, her husband, Ganesh Rajput, and his friend Prince Kumar, 22, have been identified.
On July 24, Ganesh Rajput reportedly assaulted his wife with a hammer and stabbed her, fueled by his suspicions. The following day, he involved his friend Kumar, taking her to a rented room where she was allegedly gang-raped and further assaulted.
Rajput then called two more associates, Vijay alias Kachyo Ishwarbhai Rathod, 29, and Appa Jagannath Waghmare, 39, to dispose of her body. Believing her to be dead, they bound her and threw her into the Tapi River. The woman miraculously survived and sought help at the Kapodara police station.
A case of gang rape and attempted murder has been filed, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Investigations revealed that Rajput, a driver, has a history with 26 prior cases registered against him at various Surat police stations.
