Union Minister Suresh Gopi has expressed a strong desire to step down from his current ministerial position, citing a significant financial impact since assuming public office. The renowned Malayalam actor revealed at a recent party gathering that his income from acting has ceased entirely, making it imperative for him to return to the film industry. Gopi, who currently holds the portfolios of Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, conveyed that he never intended to sacrifice his acting career for a political role. ‘I genuinely wish to continue acting. I need to earn more; my income has now stopped completely,’ he stated, emphasizing that his decision is rooted in financial necessity rather than a lack of dedication to his public service duties. He also put forward veteran BJP leader C Sadanandan Master as a potential successor for his cabinet seat, highlighting Master’s contributions and suggesting his appointment could mark a new chapter in Kerala’s political landscape. Gopi’s situation highlights the inherent challenges faced by public figures transitioning from lucrative entertainment careers to the demands of politics.
