Total arrests rise to 19 as CID expands probe into JPSC irregularities

The Crime Investigation Department of Jharkhand has now apprehended a total of 19 individuals in connection with alleged malpractice in the 14th JPSC combined civil services examination. The latest batch of five arrests, announced on August 6, includes the former computer operator of ex‑chairman L. Khiangte, three student respondents and another associate.

These arrests follow the earlier detention of Umesh Kumar, Budheshwar Bhagat and Ramesh Kumar on August 4 under case file 16/26, dated July 22, 2026. Officials contend that the suspects were involved in influencing the exam outcomes and perpetrating the alleged irregularities.

CID investigators are persisting with a detailed analysis of electronic data, documentary evidence, and witness statements. According to insiders, further interrogations are planned and the investigation may yet uncover more participants.
