A devastating incident unfolded in Telangana’s Nirmal district on Sunday, as five individuals lost their lives after drowning in the Godavari River. The victims, residents of Chintal in Hyderabad, had traveled to Basar to participate in a holy bath. The incident occurred amidst a group of people from Rajasthan who were visiting the Saraswati temple. While taking a dip, five individuals were caught in the river’s current, unaware of the depth, and subsequently drowned. Despite the efforts of local residents to assist, they were unable to save them. The bodies have been moved to the government hospital in Bhainsa. Separately, an old bridge over the Indrayani River near Kundamala village in Pune district, Maharashtra, collapsed, prompting a major rescue operation. Several people are feared to be trapped in the debris. Emergency teams, including local police, the fire brigade, and NDRF, are on-site conducting rescue operations, with some individuals already rescued.
