At the TV9 Network Travel and Tourism Summit, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasized domestic tourism as India’s greatest strength. He noted that while destinations like Dubai, Singapore, and Thailand attract international tourists, their domestic tourism base isn’t comparable to India’s. The summit brought together several prominent figures.
Shekhawat mentioned that tourism in India surpassed the 2 crore mark this year. However, he highlighted the vast domestic tourism market as a distinguishing factor. He estimated that if the recent Kumbh Mela figures were included, the number would exceed 300 crore. He stated that Indian tourists are driving development within the sector.
He further described the Kumbh Mela as a vibrant example of India’s cultural and spiritual strength. Shekhawat added that India’s success in revitalizing the tourist sector post-COVID-19 was a result of collaborative efforts from industry stakeholders. He believes that through tourism, India will emerge not only as an economic powerhouse but also as a cultural and spiritual leader on the global stage.
