Two Held in Delhi Mule Account Case Linked to Digital Arrest Scam
Delhi Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a mule bank account that was used to route money from a digital arrest cyber fraud worth Rs 2.10 crore.
The suspects, Sonu Khan (36) of Ghaziabad and Arjun Chaudhary (38) of Ram Nagar in Shahdara, were taken into custody by the cyber police of Delhi's North-East district. Police say both men have no earlier criminal record.
A total of four mobile phones, six debit cards and 10 chequebooks were recovered during the operation.
The investigation started with complaints logged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. One complaint was selected for verification, which revealed that Rs 98,592 had been credited on October 12 to a suspicious mule account in Yamuna Vihar, Delhi.
Bank records show that Rs 49,000 was withdrawn in cash that day, while the rest was withdrawn through a cheque.
The transactions were later linked to an e-FIR registered on October 15. The matter is being investigated by the IFSO unit of the Special Cell under sections 318(4), 319 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The case stems from a complaint by Pratibha Jain, a resident of Janakpuri, who said cyber criminals posing as officials cheated her of approximately Rs 2.10 crore under the pretext of a digital arrest.
During the inquiry, police identified the account holder as Sonu Khan, who was found running a disposable goods shop in Ashok Nagar, north-east Delhi. Officers seized three mobile phones, 10 chequebooks and six debit cards of various banks from him.
Khan told police that he had been working for Arjun Chaudhary, who had helped him set up the shop. Following this lead, police arrested Chaudhary from Gali No. 3 in Ram Nagar and recovered a mobile phone from his possession.
Investigators are now probing the role of others who may have been part of the mule account network.
