Newly appointed US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, highlighting the strong personal connection between President Donald Trump and the Indian leader. Gor conveyed that President Trump views PM Modi as a “great friend.” The meeting underscored the importance of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, with PM Modi expressing confidence that Gor’s tenure will further strengthen these ties.
During their productive discussion, Gor and PM Modi delved into key bilateral issues, including defense cooperation, trade dynamics, and technological advancements. The strategic importance of critical minerals was also a focal point of their conversation. Gor, who arrived in India on Friday, noted that his visit has been marked by a series of productive meetings with senior Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Ambassador-designate Gor expressed his deep gratitude for President Trump’s nomination, acknowledging the “incredible trust and confidence” placed in him. This diplomatic engagement occurs amidst ongoing trade negotiations between India and the US, which have recently resumed after a period of strain. The discussions aim to address tariff issues and foster a more robust trade relationship between the two nations.
