The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned the construction of a new controlled-entry greenfield link expressway, designed to connect the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways. This six-lane expressway, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,776 crore, is expected to significantly improve regional travel, making it faster, more convenient, and time-saving.
The new expressway will directly connect Ballia to Delhi, reducing the distance between the two cities to approximately 900 kilometers. The project was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
This new route will become an integral part of Uttar Pradesh’s evolving expressway network, integrating existing and proposed corridors, such as the Agra-Lucknow, Purvanchal, Ganga (under construction), Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link Expressways. This will ease and speed up travel between major cities, including Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Ghazipur.
The project is also anticipated to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities. Spanning a total length of 49.96 km, the expressway will initially have six lanes, with the potential for expansion to eight lanes in the future. Construction will follow the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model.
The network aims to connect every region of the state, improving connectivity and facilitating rapid transportation, thereby enhancing logistics and boosting regional development.
This expressway connects the capital Lucknow to the historical city of Agra. Its length is 302.22 km and it was constructed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). It was inaugurated on 21 November 2016 and is one of the longest expressways in India.
Purvanchal Expressway is an important project connecting the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh to Lucknow. This expressway has made travelling in eastern UP and surrounding areas much simpler and faster. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 16 November 2021.
