A devastating cloudburst has struck Dewal in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, leading to significant damage and distress. Two individuals are currently reported missing, and a number of animals have perished in the incident. Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari reported road closures due to the heavy rainfall. Relief teams have been dispatched to the affected area to manage the situation and provide assistance.
Authorities have issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several locations, including Rudraprayag and Kedarnath. In response to the alert, schools in numerous districts within the state have been closed. Furthermore, the motorway in Kedarnath has been rendered impassable due to a broken bridge.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, conveyed via social media, that a distressing report has been received indicating some families are trapped due to debris flow caused by cloudbursts in the Bareth Dungar Tok area under the Buskedar tehsil of Rudraprayag district and in the Deval area of Chamoli district. He assured that rescue and relief operations are underway and is in constant contact with officials, and has issued necessary instructions to the Disaster Secretary and District Magistrates to ensure the effective conduct of rescue operations. He also expressed his prayers for the safety of all.
