The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced an extension for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, adding an extra week to the process across 12 states and Union Territories. This vital update provides citizens with more time to ensure their voter information is accurate and current ahead of upcoming elections. The draft electoral roll will now be released on December 16, a shift from the original December 9 date. Consequently, the final, updated voters’ list will be published on February 14, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled February 7. This revision is crucial for maintaining up-to-date electoral data. The ECI is undertaking this second phase of the SIR in various regions, following a successful first phase conducted in Bihar. The current exercise encompasses Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, aiming to enhance the integrity of the electoral process.
