West Bengal Chief Minister Hails Record WBJEE Admissions as State Retains Talent

Kolkata — Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari celebrated a landmark achievement in West Bengal’s higher‑education sector as the WBJEE counseling’s first round resulted in a complete allocation of seats across all government engineering colleges. In his X post, the CM noted that the development signals a shift in student preferences, with more bright minds opting to study within the state.

The administration attributes the outcome to a series of policy measures aimed at boosting the quality of higher education, including infrastructure upgrades, faculty development programmes, and increased industry collaboration. These steps are designed to turn the traditional brain‑drain phenomenon into a sustainable brain‑gain model.

The statistics released show that 36,431 candidates registered for engineering, technology and architecture courses, a 34.26% jump from the 27,135 registrations recorded last year. Counseling began ahead of schedule, covering 87 institutions, and by July 11 all government and aided college seats were taken.

Private colleges also reported substantial seat fills. The three‑round counseling exercise is expected to wrap up by the end of July, and officials anticipate a notable rise in total engineering enrolments for the upcoming academic session.
