Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a significant improvement in its power infrastructure, largely attributed to the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Data from the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) reveals a dramatic reduction in transformer damage, indicating a stronger and more reliable power distribution system. In April and May of 2025–26, the number of damaged transformers decreased substantially. This positive shift stems from continuous monitoring, strategic interventions, and a rigorous accountability framework implemented by the government. The statistics reflect a clear strengthening of power distribution, with enhanced repair and maintenance protocols playing a crucial role.
Power transformers saw damage decrease from 42 in 2024–25 to a mere 12 in April-May 2025–26. The reduction is even more impressive when compared to previous years: 61 in 2023–24 and 90 in 2022–23, representing an over 87% decrease in just three years. General transformer damage has also decreased, from 7,322 failures in April-May 2022–23 to 2,613 in the same period of 2025–26, marking a decline of over 64%.
These results are a direct consequence of the implementation of concrete measures, including the installation of bell protection systems on power transformers and tailless and fuse units on distribution transformers. Mechanical fault tracking and continuous monitoring systems have also been put in place. Rigorous reviews of maintenance procedures have been implemented to ensure optimal performance. The government’s zero-tolerance policy on power supply disruptions, coupled with strict action against negligent officials, has greatly contributed to this positive change.
