YSR Congress Party leader and Rajampet MP PV Mithun Reddy was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday following extensive questioning related to a multi-crore liquor scam. After the arrest, SIT officials notified Mr. Reddy’s family. This action followed the Supreme Court’s rejection of his anticipatory bail plea on July 18. A total of 12 individuals have now been arrested in connection with the case.
The investigating agency alleges that Mithun Reddy played a central role in the scam, misappropriating funds collected from distillery companies, along with other accused individuals. During his second appearance before the SIT on Saturday, he was questioned on various aspects, including the establishment of new distillery businesses, the collection of commissions from liquor traders, the depositing of funds into his companies, and his relationships with other accused parties. In response, Mr. Reddy asserted that the case was politically motivated and that he was wrongly implicated. He stated his intention to legally contest the charges. Mr. Reddy had arrived in Vijayawada earlier in the day to appear before the SIT, where he provided a deposition related to the case involving recently arrested individuals Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa. In reaction to these developments, the YSR Congress Party accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of abusing his authority and targeting leaders associated with party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
