The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has issued a formal notice to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as part of its investigation into the National Herald case. Sources indicate that the notice, sent on November 29, requires Shivakumar to either appear before the investigating officers or provide specific requested information by December 19.
Investigators are reportedly seeking detailed information concerning Shivakumar’s personal background and his affiliations with the Congress party. This development is linked to an existing First Information Report (FIR) filed in the National Herald case, which names Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Authorities believe Shivakumar may possess crucial documents or financial details relevant to this FIR, particularly concerning funds allegedly transferred to a firm called Young Indian.
Shivakumar has previously spoken out against what he describes as a ‘political vendetta’ by the central government against Rahul Gandhi. He asserts that the National Herald is a party asset, not the personal property of the Gandhi family, and that leadership roles within the party historically involve stewardship of such institutions. He has condemned the alleged misuse of investigative agencies for political purposes and called for fair political competition. The Karnataka Deputy CM also addressed recent reports of internal party divisions, emphasizing unity among Congress MLAs in the state.
