Lucknow: On World Biodiversity Day, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya called upon citizens to recognize the critical importance of preserving nature's diversity for the survival of humanity. Speaking on the occasion, Maurya described biodiversity as the actual wealth of life and stressed that it underpins human existence, agriculture, water systems, wildlife, and the prosperity of future generations. He explained that the variety of animals, plants, water bodies, and natural resources helps sustain environmental equilibrium. Without safeguarding biodiversity, human life cannot remain healthy and secure, he warned. The deputy chief minister voiced alarm over the growing dangers to biodiversity caused by pollution, climate change, and the unsustainable use of natural resources, calling it a global concern. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, India has initiated multiple welfare programs for environmental protection, water conservation, afforestation, and resource development. In line with these national efforts, the Uttar Pradesh government has made environmental protection and green growth a top priority through extensive tree plantation, water saving measures, and cleanliness drives. Maurya urged people to view nature conservation as a personal and ethical duty rather than solely a government responsibility. He suggested that if every citizen pledges to plant trees, save water, and show sensitivity toward natural resources, future generations can inherit a clean and safe environment. He reminded that World Biodiversity Day highlights the interdependence between nature and human life, urging everyone to actively participate in biodiversity protection and ecological balance.
