The BJP as well as Muslim organisations in Karnataka have found themselves on the same side of an issue. Both have given a call for a ‘bandh’ on Monday, condemning the murder of 23-year-old college student Neha Hiremath in Hubballi. Taking to social media platform X, state party president BY Vijayendra called on BJP workers to set aside election work and take to the streets on Monday. “In the hustle and bustle of elections, we cannot ignore the cases of cruelty to girls, blasphemy and attacks on national devotees. The killing of Neha Hiremath of Hubballi is the most brutal incident. It is the demand of the public that the police should investigate this from all angles,” he said. Hitting out at the ruling Congress, he accused the government of reacting lightly to the incident. “It is clear that the government is giving generous patronage to the wicked and the thorns of Hinduism, the favor of the minorities is the priority of this government,” he said. Neha Hiremath, a first-year MCA student in Hubballi’s BVB College, was stabbed to death on the campus by accused Fayaz Khondunaik. The BJP has been alleging the ‘Love Jihad’ angle in the murder incident, as the accused allegedly attacked her for rejecting him. He has been arrested.
