A 22-year-old engineer has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming a world champion in speed skating and bringing glory to India. Anandkumar Velkumar, who is pursuing engineering studies, secured a gold medal at the Speed Skating World Championship held in China. He is the first Indian to win gold in skating at such a prestigious international event. Velkumar’s triumph took place on September 15th, coinciding with Engineer’s Day, making the victory even more special. He showcased exceptional skill and determination, triumphing in the 1000-meter sprint event. Prior to this gold, he also secured a bronze medal in the 500-meter sprint, marking India’s first-ever World Championship medal at the senior level in this sport.
