Following a contentious match between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup, match referee Andy Pycroft is set to be replaced by Richie Richardson for upcoming Pakistan fixtures. The decision comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) engaged in discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding perceived issues during the Pakistan-India match. The PCB voiced dissatisfaction with certain decisions and conduct, formally requesting Pycroft’s removal. Despite initial ICC rejection, a compromise was reached, resulting in Richardson’s appointment for Pakistan’s next game against the UAE. This resolution provided a diplomatic solution for PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who had consulted with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif earlier. Pakistan’s potential withdrawal from the tournament was averted, which would have led to substantial financial losses. In contrast, the Indian team, buoyed by their victory, engaged in rigorous training sessions. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s training regimen appeared less focused, with players participating in a football passing drill. The atmosphere was described as tense, with the two teams maintaining a distance from each other, highlighting the existing cricketing tensions.
