Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has offered a scathing critique of the Indian batting lineup following their disappointing 0-2 Test series defeat against South Africa. Ashwin specifically highlighted a lack of “zero intent” in the batters’ approach, pointing to instances where opportunities were missed and defensive play lacked conviction. He elaborated on this during a video on his YouTube channel, expressing disappointment over the team’s overall fight. Ashwin cited the example of batter Sai Sudharsan, who he observed failed to capitalize on hittable deliveries from bowler Senuran Muthusamy, ultimately being dismissed at first slip. Ashwin believes this issue stems from either technical deficiencies or tactical missteps. Beyond individual performances, Ashwin also proposed solutions for improving India’s Test cricket future. He emphasized the need for a stronger domestic structure, advocating for more matches to be played on turning pitches to better prepare players for spin bowling. He stressed that solid defense against spin is crucial and that selectors should prioritize Test-specific performances over IPL achievements when picking squads.
