In a low‑scoring encounter at Lord’s, Pakistan’s middle‑order batsman Azaan Avis emerged as the lone beacon of resilience. Coach Sarfaraz Ahmad highlighted the 46‑run contribution, crafted off 102 deliveries and studded with seven boundaries, as a vital innings that kept the team from a total collapse.

The Pakistani side had struggled to post competitive scores, with 171 in the first innings and 135 in the second, before crumbling to 110 runs in England’s first innings. The English pace attack exploited the conditions, resulting in early dismissals.

Sarfaraz noted that while the overall batting display was far from satisfactory, Avis’ effort showed what can be achieved with patience and technique. "He managed Archer’s spell with composure, and his knock will act as a significant boost for his confidence and the squad’s morale," the coach said.

The coach reiterated his earlier advice: batsmen must aim to occupy the crease for at least 30‑40 deliveries before looking to accelerate. Avis’ performance, according to Sarfaraz, is a textbook example of that approach.
