From Rejected Under‑15 to Professional: Blake’s Inspiring Journey

Josh Blake’s path to the professional arena was anything but linear. After being excluded from Surrey’s under‑15 development scheme, he continued playing senior club cricket, eventually representing Sutton in the Surrey Championship. Determined to improve, he travelled to Australia during the 2017‑18 off‑season, working and playing for Sydney Shires. Upon returning, he served four years as a community coach for the Surrey Cricket Foundation while still performing for Sutton. His breakthrough came in 2021 when he debuted for Surrey’s second eleven, leading to a first‑team contract and a prominent role in the county’s one‑day side.
