Just as Brazil began to finalise its squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, another injury to Neymar has sent shockwaves through the camp. The 34-year-old forward was forced to miss Santos’ Copa Sudamericana home game against San Lorenzo after complaining of calf pain. Medical staff at the club have downplayed the severity, yet the incident has reignited concerns about his long-term fitness. Doctor Rodrigo Jogaeb told reporters that Neymar should be available for Brazil’s opening pre-World Cup training session scheduled for 27 May. Since recovering from a serious knee injury in late 2023, Neymar has struggled to regain his explosive form. Brazil begins its campaign on 13 June against Morocco in New Jersey before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
