Central Delhi Kings showcased a dominant all-around performance, securing their place in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) Season 2 playoffs with a convincing 104-run victory (DLS method) over Purani Dilli 6 in a rain-affected match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
After choosing to bat first, the Kings quickly recovered from an early setback with the loss of Kaushal Suman. Yash Dhull, a key player throughout the season, anchored the innings with a composed half-century, partnering with Yugal Saini to build a crucial 57-run stand. The middle order contributed further with Jonty Sidhu’s quickfire 28 off 16 balls and Aditya Bhandari’s 17 off 11. The innings’ highlight was Aryan Rana’s explosive, unbeaten 42 off just 14 balls, featuring aggressive hitting. The Kings posted a total of 197/5 in 18 overs. Rajneesh Dadar of Purani Dilli 6 took 3 wickets for 40 runs.
In response, Purani Dilli 6 struggled from the start. Money Grewal and Arun Pundir dismantled the top order, dismissing Rushal Saini and Samarth Seth. Skipper Vansh Bedi attempted a counter-attack but was soon dismissed by Pundir. The score was 44/3 in 6 overs when rain halted play, setting a DLS par target of 174 in 15 overs.
Following the rain interruption, Purani Dilli 6’s situation worsened. Simarjeet Singh took two quick wickets. Pranav Pant offered some resistance with 24 off 17 balls, but after his dismissal, the batting collapsed. Purani Dilli 6 were bowled out for 69 runs, losing by a significant 104 runs.
All Kings bowlers contributed effectively. Simarjeet Singh and Jonty Sidhu each took 2 wickets for only 6 runs, with Sidhu bowling just one over. Arun Pundir also made his mark with 2/28. The comprehensive victory boosts the Kings’ momentum heading into the playoffs and sends a strong message to their DPL Season 2 rivals.
