CM Vishnu Dev Sahu Awards Silver Medalist Gyaneshwari Yadav with Cash and Police Rank Boost

New Delhi, August 3 – Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sahu of Chhattisgarh personally congratulated weightlifting champion Gyaneshwari Yadav after her silver‑medal performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

In a brief ceremony at the CM’s residence, the leader announced a cash award of Rs 30 lakh and an out‑of‑turn promotion to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police for the athlete. The move is part of a broader state initiative to reward sporting excellence with both monetary and career benefits.

Yadav posted a total of 199 kg in the women’s 53 kg category – 88 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean‑and‑jerk – marking her best clean‑and‑jerk lift to date. She finished behind Nigeria’s Didih Onoje Omolola (gold, 206 kg) and ahead of Canada’s Rebecca Graulax (bronze, 178 kg).

The chief minister highlighted that Yadav’s achievement will serve as a motivational story for girls across Chhattisgarh, encouraging greater participation in sports. He assured that the state will continue to provide resources, training facilities, and financial incentives to athletes aiming for global success.
