Coach Terence Joseph Outlines Strategy Ahead of Asian Games Rugby Sevens

In a detailed press conference at the SAI Eastern Centre, head coach Terence Joseph laid out the tactical blueprint for the Indian women's rugby sevens team as it readies for the Asian Games 2026.

Joseph highlighted the need for precision in set pieces, swift transitions and rigorous defensive structures. “Our success in Japan will depend on how well we can implement what we practice here in Kolkata,” he said.

The coaching staff, including foreign consultant Kiano Faouri, emphasized that the camp will incorporate sport‑science support, nutrition planning and video analysis to give the players a high‑performance edge.

Regional Director Shibanand Mishra reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing world‑class facilities for both men’s and women’s rugby teams. He noted that the camp, which runs until September 24, will finalize the senior squad and refine the nuanced tactics required against powerhouses such as China, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Veterans Shikha Yadav and Dumini Marandi, who also played in the 2022 Asian Games, will lead a group that blends experience with emerging talent, ensuring the team retains the momentum built over recent years.
