COE vacancy: BCCI calls for qualified head of sports science and medicine

In a statement released on Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced that the Head of Sports Science and Medicine position at its Centre of Excellence is again open for applications. The vacancy has persisted since the exit of Nitin Patel, who previously managed the rehabilitation of key Indian players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The role demands comprehensive oversight of all sport‑science and medical activities, planning elite‑cricket programmes, and ensuring that Indian cricketers receive world‑class fitness and medical assistance. The incumbent will also manage the COE’s physiotherapy, strength and conditioning departments, working closely with coaches, the cricket education wing and performance specialists.

Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree in sports science, sports medicine or a related field; a doctorate will be given priority. They should have a minimum of five years’ experience directing multidisciplinary expert teams at a professional or Olympic level and be younger than 60 years.

Interested candidates can submit their online applications up to 5 p.m. on 30 September. Following the deadline, a selection panel will prepare a shortlist for personal interviews. The chosen candidate will report directly to the COE chief and former batsman VVS Laxman.
